Blower Door, Duct Leakage & Energy Code Testing

Testing and consultation for homeowners and builders in Maine and New Hampshire.

Efficient Home Services provides performance testing and consultation for homeowners, builders and contractors in southern Maine and the New Hampshire seacoast. Most building codes now require performance testing of HVAC ductwork and building envelope air tightness, and we can help you plan for those tests and pass them.

Blower Door & Envelope Air Leakage Testing

A blower door test measures how airtight a home’s building envelope is. A fan mounted in an exterior doorway changes the pressure in the house so that air leakage can be measured and the leaks can be located.

For homeowners, it shows where heated and cooled air is escaping. For builders, it verifies envelope air tightness for the tests required by code.

Duct Leakage Testing: Total & to Outside

Duct leakage testing (Duct Blaster) measures how much air escapes from HVAC ductwork. We can test total leakage or leakage to outdoors, which significantly increases your odds of passing for code.

Energy Code Compliance for New Construction & Additions

Hard hat, blueprints and tools

We are a Certified Third Party Inspector for Residential Energy Code, working with builders and contractors in Maine and New Hampshire on new homes and additions. We offer testing and consultation to help you meet requirements such as the 2009 or later International Energy Conservation Code (IECC).

By involving us early in planning and construction we can help ensure the systems will pass the tests required by code. See all of our services for contractors.

Home Energy Audits

For existing homes, testing is part of a complete energy audit. Our energy audits follow BPI Standards and can include blower door testing, duct leakage testing, infrared camera inspections and combustion safety testing. After we have inspected and tested the home we produce a written report complete with costs, estimated savings and prioritized improvements.
